On the second day of its Mid-Year meeting in Sestra, Italy, the ISAF Council have voted in favour of the NACRA17 being the class/equipment for the new Mixed Multihull event to be sailed at the 2016 Olympics.

The Council vote was decisive at 20 votes to 15 - an improvement over the Events Committee where the NACRA17 only made it as preferred boat by virtue of the Chairman, Chris Atkins' casting vote.
The Nacra17 is the longest of the boats entered in the trials, and with the most beam and sail area.
The Evaluation Summary reads:
The clear preference of the MNA Sailors and the Evaluation Panel was the innovative new NACRA 17. Designed specifically for the Mixed Multihull criteria the Evaluation Panel concluded the NACRA 17 is seen as the best option. Featuring curved dagger boards providing vertical lift, the NACRA 17 will carry a wider – range of crew weight better than the 16 footers and is considerably lighter than a Formula 18. The modern NACRA 17 also offers the sailors in the Mixed Multihull Event the exciting challenge of mastering the potential lift of the curved daggerboards.

Short notice but there is a talk by Bruce Arms at Geilston Bay Yacht Club 7pm 12th April. The food is good and the talk should be very interesting. Big Wave Rider was the winner of this years 3 peaks
Prior to the last Solo Trans Tasman, an event he has won twice, Arms enhanced the sail plan and found extra speed which resulted in his world record of solo circumnavigating Australia in 38 days, 21 hours, 41 minutes and 42 seconds.
6th Pennant race

A lovely day but a bit light in the wind department till a light sea breeze filled in at the end of the race - which saw many boats stay out just for the pleasure of sailing.
6 races now sailed brings in a drop. Bruce Rose in the PT's has it stitched up.
Mark and Annie in Div 1 has that one stitched up as well. Today however was one for the A's. I enjoyed great close racing with Geoff

TASMANIAN CATAMARAN CHAMPIONSHIPS MARCH 2012

Another Tasmanian Catamaran Championship completed.
Solid courses tested the sailing fitness of many, me included.
The PT’s saw “the apprentice” exhibit his mastery for a clear win. Good to see that the fleet is now close and positions hard fought.
The North were represented by 3 Hobie 16’s with Tim and Anne Gillespie sailing particularly well to their yardstick.
The remainder of Div 1 had some great battles around the course. At the end Mark and Annie cleaned up.

I mentioned at the presentation that I am looking for new blood to take on Tascat. I am happy to say interest has been expressed. Which is fantastic. It would be great for others to assist – particularly from other clubs (Bridport, Leven, Kelso, Strahan). Enthusiasm and drive has got the PT’s substantial growth. It will be the same for Tascat

Forcast rain clearing and thunderstorms. Bit damp at parts but otherwise a warm day with confused breezes

Next Saturday and Sunday the Tasmanian Catamaran Championships will be held ---- which will also incorporate the Paper Tiger State Titles.
Gonna be some great sailing conditions and a chance for sailors from all around the State to get together.
Nikki and her team has yet again organised a great feast for the Saturday evening.
Some good prizes too
Free on site camping for the travellers.
