The Crown Series Bellerive Regatta provides exciting and competitive yacht racing for all participants in the sport combined with a weekend of fun and frivolity on shore focused around the Bellerive Yacht Club. The last weekend of February 2010 will bring a mass of sail to the Derwent River taking advantage of the great yacht racing venue, set against a background of the City of Hobart under the shadow of Mount Wellington at a time of the year when sailing conditions are predicted to be at their best. The Dinghy and Catamaran classes will have up to 9 races over two days with Keel Boat and Trailable Yacht Divisions participating in up to seven races commencing with a non-spinnaker Twilight Race on Friday which sets the tone for a fun and relaxed weekend. After the racing each day the Kangaroo Bay foreshore will come alive with music, entertainment, games and good food supported by the City of Clarence Jazz festival being conducted on the adjacent Bellerive Boardwalk. The event provides an opportunity to participate in an competitive regatta conducted, with the support of representatives from all local yacht clubs, by the most experienced Tasmanian race officials. Added to this is the opportunity for crew, families, supporters, volunteers and friends to relax, fraternise and enjoy a great weekend. This year will see up to forty trailable yachts, mostly from the north of the state, conducting their State Championships, bringing a new dimension to the Regatta in an area of sailing which has not been well supported in the South in the past. On shore will see more competition with Sumo wrestling, which this year will cater for all sizes of competitors, surfboard riding and even a jumping castle. The Marina Room and courtyard will be alive with music and organised mayhem while the Regatta Retreat on the Upper Deck provides a place to relax and enjoy a quiet drink or meal. All keelboats competitors are invited to spend the weekend at the Bellerive Yacht Club Marina. For competing dinghies the large parking, rigging and assembly area adjacent to the launching area has twentyfour hour security protection.
